The Ewart Library, in Dumfries, is the largest in Dumfries and Galloway. It has an extensive collection of printed works about the region, and also holds a wide range of maps, photographs and newspapers. Most of the local material is on open shelves, and organised by parish and subject.
There are also a number of other libraries throughout the region that hold duplicate material relevant to their local area, with those at Annan, Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright, Lockerbie and Newton Stewart being the most extensive.
