The Scottish Screen Archive is Scotland’s national moving images collection. Covering over 100 years of Scottish film history, it houses over 32,000 items, mostly non-fiction, including newsreels, documentaries, educational material, and advertising. Home movies make up a large part of the collection. Material relating to Dumfries and Galloway ranges from amateur footage of the New Galloway gala week in 1951 and the Guid Nychburris festival across a number of years to documentaries looking at the work of a Dumfries policeman in 1946 to and the industries of the three counties in the late 1950s.
